When the residence halls close during the winter, spring, and summer breaks, all students are asked to vacate the residence halls unless they fill out a request to stay (Recess Residency Request or RRR form) with Culbertson or Houghton desks for an additional cost. This does not apply to married students living in Jenkins Hall.
Requests to stay on campus during breaks are approved for the following reasons:
- A non US Resident or a US Resident whose parents live overseas
- Taking a Moody academic course during break
- Working a minimum of 15 hours on or off campus
- Participating in a student group trip led by Moody staff or faculty member who has coordinated recess housing with the Residence Life office.

Are there required events and activities for those living on campus?
In the first week of the semester, the Resident Supervisors will host a required All Hall meeting for all on campus Chicago residents. All on campus Chicago campus students are required to be on a 15 meal plan. The meal plan is $1,970 per semester. Students also have access to the grill style eatery called the Commons. For hours and menu information, you can visit the Food Service Website. Any medical or health related exemptions must be documented by a health professional and approved by the American Disabilities Act coordinator. Email the ADA coordinator, Gayla.gates@moody.edu to request a meal plan exemption.
Is there a place I can prepare my own meals?
Every floor in the Chicago Residence Halls has a shared kitchen where students can prepare meals or snacks. Some floors provide limited kitchen and cooking utensils but our recommendation would be to bring personal cookware for students who need access to kitchens for personal meal prep.
